If you have any interest at all in the Anglican Communion then I would recommend reading the Thinking Anglicans blog regularly and properly. I never did because it didn't have any pictures or comment, but then I didn't have a clue what was going on in my own Church!
Anyway - I have been less than impressed with the treatment of Bishop Pete Broadbent (see the Church Mouse) - and so I was interested when Thinking Anglicans had a link through to this Presidential Address from Bishop Richard Chartres (Bishop of London):
Within the Diocese, Bishop Pete is a most valued friend and colleague. I am deeply grateful to him for our partnership in the gospel and was able to say that when I visited him and Sarah at home on Sunday.
What the outside world sees is a bishop who represents the Church of England making comments abut a marriage for which Bishop Pete has himself apologised unreservedly. The subsequent action has been taken in consultation with Pete. The best course now is for us all to refrain from comment and observe the order of the day – heads down or heads off.
Heads down or heads OFF?????? What School of Management did this approach emerge from - has he been taking tips from the Queen of Hearts? I'm looking forward to the day when I don't want to wail when I hear the words 'Church of England'.
