If you are quick, you can hear ++Rowan talking about Colin Slee here (about 5mins in). It really is worth listening to, and it reminds me why so many of us love Rowan Williams, his openness, his humility, his maturity and his ability to articulate things well at times. I have transcribed it below:
Colin thought I was completely wrong and let me know that in no uncertain terms. I think throughout his time and my time he thought I was much too cautious and much too accommodating to, as he would see it, aggressive conservatism. Now that was an argument which we had fairly regularly and at the same time continued to share hospitality, go to the theatre together, talk about other things and on the whole find most of the same things funny. I value very much the fact that he was a man big enough not to let friendship be absolutely undercut by some quite... quite demanding differences.I of course agree with Colin's point of view, but I respect ++Rowan also.
