I have just read this comment on the Pluralist's blog:
I've got the DDO form from the priesthood here on my desk , but the more I read about this bloody Covenant the more I don't want to ba apart of the rotten instiution!
Together with the vote against blessings of same sex unions (we should be doing full blown marriages and leading on this), I am really disinclined to through my hat into the ring - I'm really attracted to the OEC and like the mission to all.
Being in the Church of England feels like a cross between watching a car crash in slow motion, and King Canute.
It is strange, I said to a friend yesterday that I think if I had read the Windsor Report before being ordained, I would never have put myself forward. I'm glad I didn't read it! Please don't go. There are many progressive priests and laity in the Church of England. I have heard that in the next ten years 40% of the priests will retire and we will be short of Vicars. We need you.
A good friend tells me that I should never quit and always apply for my boss's job as two rules to make a difference in an organisation. I truly think that the Church of England can and will be a good place to work to change our world if we can just hang in long enough and oppose the madness that currently exists.
PS this was in my daily readings today, sums it up for me:
PS this was in my daily readings today, sums it up for me:
The old men have left the city gate,
the young men their music.
The joy of our hearts has ceased;
our dancing has been turned to mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
Because of this our hearts are sick,
because of these things our eyes have grown dim:
because of Mount Zion, which lies desolate;
jackals prowl over it.
