Wednesday Whimsical Web Round-up

This is my Wednesday selection from the web. It was really hard to just select ten this week - really hard - it grieved me to delete some of them. I am trying to choose posts from bloggers that perhaps readers here do not follow, as well as highlighting the excellent posts from our old favourites that I feel can't be missed. Some of my favourite bloggers are being most irritating and posting three excellent posts a week, and it is hard to choose the one I like best. I don't get very many comments or feedback on these round-ups.. I can understand why, but a bit of a steer here and there about what you like would be very helpful.

1. I want to start with Bishop Alan's excellent post on not choosing the fastest lemming. You may notice that sometimes I despair because the church seems neither to be intelligent nor holy. It is a supreme mercy to me that there is a Bishop in the Church of England to repeatedly calls us to be both intelligent and holy.

2. I think this post from the nakedpastor about paying your minister is very important indeed. The nakedpastor is, to my mind, part of the Emerging Church scene. One of the unanswered questions in that scene is whether the Emerging Church really want to have a person that is paid to lead.

3. We mixed our Drinks had three excellent posts this week. I had to choose this one in the end because I think all of us need to stand against the blight of rape. In addition we need to ask our tabloid newspapers to start acting with dignity and respect.

4. Anne Jackson writes some good advice for people going through a divorce.

5. Paul Wilkinson comments on 'the lie that women shouldn't teach men' which is part of this book:

6. A new name has a very interesting guest post from Emma's husband about the ways in which he makes her nag him. So often in relationships we subconsciously manipulate our partners into behaving badly and then we blame them.

7. The Church Mouse has a post about the Ordinariate numbers. Very measured and full of common sense, as usual.

8. Significant Truths highlights the importance of responsible and ethical pastoral work in churches, especially with respect to the emotional abuse that can be meted out in the name of theology. She briefly considers the impact on homosexual people and sexual abuse survivors.

9. At Dreaming Beneath the Spires Anita has published one of her essays in five parts. This was the section I enjoyed most, extolling the practice of prayer.

10. The very worst missionary talks about a period of passive aggressive fighting that she and her husband are engaging in. I think it is interesting because people don't talk about the reality of their relationships much. We all have power and control issues to navigate in intimate relationships and I imagine all of us could use some advice or at least reassurance that we are not alone.
