Apple is doing extremely we'll in a lot of markets. Microsoft does well in the corporate market but they are not flashy or innovative in terms of their core market. Microsoft does well because corporations have settled on Windows / Office combination. Since it does well for their purposes, it is enough to sustain them.
Congratulations to Apple for doing so well but do not feel bad for Microsoft.
1)Most of what you wrote is true...but there is so much more to Microsoft being successful on just Windows and/or Office as well as MS and Apple have completely different business models. MS has been extremely successful with SQL Server for decades. Windows is more than just Windows in the business world. Apple is and has been non existent in the business world since Apple's birth. MS has numerous small business packages. Apple has none. MS has a huge Services team. Apple has none. MS has ventured into hardware accessories for decades (mice, keyboards, etc) and probably still makes a hefty profit there. MS has also dabbled into consumer electronics hardware with Xbox (wildly successful) and Zune (terribly bad). Again, these aren't cuts on Apple nor am I rooting for MS...but there simply is no comparison.
2)MS has been innovative for a very long time. Last few years?...in my opinion? Not really.
I'm glad Apple is doing very well and hopefully Apple will some day lower their iMac prices a few hundred bucks so I can have a prettier web surfing machine compared to my Dell. I'll never steer away from iPods. And very likely I will buy an iPhone 5 to replace my 3GS...unless Apple takes too long and/or charges too much compared to the 25+ Android models I can choose from.

I guess the counter argument would be that an application is a type of program, not a part of a program. (which I personally would disagree with. As I understand, the individual binary is an application, where the program is the sum of the binaries, libraries, resource files, etc...)
Actually, the individual binary is an executable.
Web Apps are complex, contain client side code, server side code, datasets, data models, etc..
Applications and Programs are pretty much interchangeable and describe the whole. MS actually got it wrong in that Explorer screenshot, .EXE should simply say Executable and .DLL should simply say dynamically linked library.

I mean a person lost his life because of his actions, and the guard now has to live with the fact that he took a life. All for what - some iToys? Doesn't seem worth it. :(
I don't mean to be off-topic with this, nor am I pro-guns or anything, but the security guard was protecting himself from people that had no respect for life to begin with. Would your story be the same if the felons killed the security guard? or if they were robbing your house?

Just to be clear, if RA had made an application for a Macbook that displayed these images, that's ok. Because they made the application for an iPhone instead, it's not ok.

In a sense, yes. The rules for iPhone development are different than for Mac OS X. I may not always agree with it but there you have it. :)

My personal opinion is that WP7 is a decent OS, but I just don't see this being a possibility with the meager selection in WP7 software.I agree. I have met only ONE person ever to have a Windows phone. Everywhere I go, iPhones are by far the #1 phone I see.

I can't comprehend the leap in logic in this line of thinking. The app is on the phone. Using an app is not dangerous. What is dangerous here are people who drink and then proceed to get behind the wheel.
The problem is the drinking not the an app on a phone. If you want to stop drunk driving address the drinking of alcohol.
What next? lets get rid of computer email software because someone can email you where the speed trap is or how about getting rid of web browsers because they are used to display similar content on the web? Ridiculous.
I wish people would just think about the implications of allowing such non-sense from being implemented into law.
If any of you had ever lost someone or had someone that you loved seriously injured by a drunk driver - you'd want this app pulled.
0 good can come from drunk driving. I don't know anyone (intelligent person) who would say otherwise. Constitutional or not, who in the world would want to encourage a drunk person to get behind the wheel? ..which is exactly what these apps do. I'm sure that there's a percentage of drunk drivers who have ventured out on the roads only because they had the convenience of these apps - when otherwise, they would have gotten a ride or sobered up first.

You gave it permission. Location Services is enabled on your phone, and apps that require the data ask your permission, and almost any system level service keep logs.

My sister was run over by a drunk 6-8 years ago, broken leg. I think all the pins have been removed.
A teenage driver was killed in a head-on directly in front of my house (30 mph road) by a guy doing 50+, over the limit on alcohol, and with marijuana in his blood. His mother still keeps a memorial on the corner across the street. That has also been around 10 years.

I wish they would use AMD processors as a way to get around this problem with intel and ati. We would benefit from AMD's gpu's and a better price for the end user. Flame away.
I would also prefer AMD, but I don't think there will be Llanos low-powered enough for the MBA.
Look at the Zacate E-350. It's 18W, and CPU-wise it's at a dual core Atom level.
OK, it's bulk 40nm, and Llano is 32nm SOI, but the quad mobile Llano I've seen is supposed to be 45W. MBAs are at 10W and 17W.
Llano is still a Stars+ core. Maybe next year with Bulldozer Fusion.

Hmmm looks like the analyst just took the current Symbian market share and gave it to Windows7 for 2015. I think that is very naive. I think that many more people will move to Android, iPhone and WebOS in the time it takes Nokia to ramp up the Windows phones.
