Princess Catherine and Prince william

Kate Middleton and Prince William

Waity-Katie no more! (Or Waity William, either.) The newly hitched duo took sophistication, elegance, and class to a new level this morning — with Kate wearing Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen — and their two kisses, very short and dignified as they were, didn't disappoint. The look they exchanged afterward and the way William took her hand as they left the balcony was evidence enough of their feelings. Even with the whole world watching, these two lovebirds created a brief moment for the ages.

2. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale

Ah, 2002 memories! Remember Gwen's gorgeous pink-dipped Christian Dior wedding gown? This scarlet smooch took place at Stefani and Rossdale's second wedding ceremony — an additional bash in L.A. that was held two weeks after the first event in London.

3. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt

The lip-lock above took place not at the couple's first supposedly spontaneous Cabo San Lucas wedding, which didn't count in the U.S., but at their L.A. wedding in 2009. And reality television — not to mention America's taste level — would never be the same again. At least she chose a Monique Lhullier dress.

4. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz

The musical pair tied the knot in July 2010 on the Mediterranean sea. Keys, clad in Vera Wang, is with child in this pic — they had announced their baby news a few months before the wedding, in May.

5. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

So lovely: a stolen kiss at DeGeneres and de Rossi's 2008 L.A. wedding. Not that we know the ladies personally, but this has to be pretty close to what love looks like. And could de Rossi appear any more princess-like in her Zac Posen gown? (Posen designed Ellen's tux, too!)

6. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Their courtship was a little, shall we say, "whirlwind." But there was proof that they tied the knot and smooched at ceremony's end: The photo, above, that they sent to Good Morning America in 2006 shortly after their nuptials, during which Holmes wore a Giorgio Armani gown. Guests said the kiss lasted a long, uncomfortable three minutes. We get it, Tom. You're heterosexual.

7. Prince Charles and Princess Diana

Princess Diana and Prince Charles

You can't mention William and Kate's wedding kiss without paying homage to Charles and Diana's wedding deal-closer — and look at that pouffy statement wedding dress, designed by relatively unknown designers Elizabeth Emanuel and husband David Emanuel. On the Today show this past week Jane Pauley and Tom Brokaw, who covered the 1981 wedding, noted that nearly everyone noticed the lack of chemistry between the two. It's nice that that's not the case with the new royal couple. Rest in peace, Diana. We're all thinking of you today.
