The Return « Super Meltard

My bike left for visit to the Honda dealership, you might recall the strange battery troubles I was having. Let me tell you, I'd gotten so used to the ease of being able to head up to the movie rental, or the hardware store out of town, that not having a bike left me sort of stranded. But that was okay, because Scooterman had an encounter with a deer.
Scooters have some sort of strange mystique. Their riders don't wear protective gear. Yes, it takes me five minutes to put my Klim pants on, my boots, my jacket, but when I crash, I walk away with less damage. The poor guy, he was on his scooter, in jeans and my old leather jacket, with low slip on shoes. He got banged up and shredded, and is walking with a bad foot, bad knee, and a brace on one hand.
Again, I feel lucky to have had those Klim pants. I know I sound like I'm selling them, but god, the abrasion resistant material really works.
I got to go out riding today, and the bike is snappy, the lights are bright. I went up the big hill, and at the cresent you can see the lake and all of the little town, and then I just crested down the left hand turn and would've gone up to the next street, but I've been told to not disturb the chickens, so I went downhill a street, but I would've liked to have gone up and down each street, I love the acceleration of the bike. The feeling of being able to just punch it up a hill.
I left a pot of rice on the stove. It was still sort of edible by the time I remembered it and headed home. Then, I made the mistake of having a glass of wine with dinner, and bugger, there goes my after dinner ride. It's hard thinking like a driver, you have to sort of plan ahead more, like playing chess. But it's worth it. I can think of a lot of situations where planning ahead proves to be valuable.
I'm off to go feed Scooterman, I won't rub in the fact that I'm going out for a long ride tomorrow, and he's stuck at home, but I'm sort of pleased about being able to go out on my own. And I think I'm doing pretty good at the planning ahead bit, and being prepared for a crash. Share Print Email Reddit
