    So order it.

I was talking about people who buy a machine and immediately consider returning it.

Speaking of returns, is there a possibility of buying the machine and if they don't auto-upgrade me to the new one, return it and buy a new one?

The problem with stolen Apple products would be no Applecare.

Anyway, these mall cops should carry Taser Apps on their iphones.

And that is precisely why people who have concealed weapon permits are trained in the legal ramifications of carrying a firearm in the public arena. We don't carry firearms to "save the day". We carry firearms to save our lives. Legally, I cannot get involved in a shooting that doesn't directly involve me.. I have no idea what is going on and could just as easily be shooting an undercover cop as a miscreant.

I'm not a gun control advocate. I own a gun. But I laugh at the absurd notion of being a hero when threatened. These glorified stories of what would have happened in situation X if someone had had a gun are laughable. It doesn't work like that.

Happens about 2,000,000 times a year. Check the FBI stats if you don't believe me. You don't hear much about that because (A) our media doesn't like to report "good" shootings, and (B) about 97% of the time no shooting is required, as the criminal gets the idea quick and stops threatening innocents in a hurry.

And most of the time when you hear that in situation X, if only someone had a had a gun...

When that right to life guy walked into the church and shot up the congregation, people said if the church goers had carried guns for instance. No way. He opened fire without warning.

Or take the incident in Tucson with the congress woman. No one would have stopped that with a gun either. It doesn't work like that. Yes you may stop a crime but it is usually a criminal who never intends to actually kill. If someone intends to kill or doesn't care about killing, then forget it.

Surely they wouldn't have a whole invite just for an MBP update either? Although this board seems obsessed with Merom MBP's, replacing a chip in a laptop really isn't that exciting.

I'm hoping for a completely new product range of some sort.

OH NO, don't say that. Now we'll be inundated with 600 posts of "I want a mid tower Mac, headless, for $1200.00"

My iMacs have 2 Firewire ports (a 27" and a 24") which I use for TM and a SD clone external. The new iMacs only have one FW port - with 4 USB connections. Seems like a slower way to have to back up, and I see no externals out there that run Thunderbolt.

    Am I missing something?

I kind of like the idea of being able to see how piss-poor the police services are in an area. The app only shows how ineffectively these check points are setup.

I don't usually speculate, but I find it interesting "Showtime" is capitalized. Could the downloads be part of some partnership with the cable channel? Just wild speculation on my part.

    -p-

I doubt it, but you never know. "Showtime" as a phrase has been around a lot longer than the cable channel. But it definitely does emphasize this event as one that's centered around movies.

As far as you're concerned maybe, but as far as what's common or not, you're out of it. There's a reason every laptop out there has some kind of external display connector.

But silly me, I must be a moron for using the mini display port right ?

You're doing it wrong. I plug in 4 cables. Power, Monitor, Speakers, USB. My keyboard/mouse/tablet/Printer/iPhone/iPod all get recognized instantly. That's what the USB hub on my desk is for. 1 cable, all devices.

If Apple had docks, it would be even better. Just drop the laptop in place and voila. But I guess docks just aren't esthetic enough.

There is nothing uncommon about it, so again, thank you for calling me stupid because I dare use a MBA as my only computer and I dare launch games on it, while connected to an external monitor of all things!

Keep your insults for yourself next time.
I kindly ask you to not put words in my mouth I've never written. I've never called you 'moron' or 'stupid' or using foul language about you. 'Keep your insults for yourself next time' is not a very kind thing to say, and I am actually wondering whether I should report you to the moderator.

So is it safe to assume that with 2 external monitors one can have a 3-monitor eyefinity-like extended desktop?

And would the same setup work in bootcamp (ie using eyefinity)?

BTW, Canadian prices are the same as US! Never thought I'd see the day.

just like the iPhone would never sell?

I can clearly remember watching ballmer laugh at the iPhone pre-launch, even at that time it was ridiculous. But now that reality is being rubbed in his face its even funnier.

Predictions mean nothing, all these companys seem to think saying something makes it so. You notice apple NEVER says something like "by everyone will want an iPhone" ...because apple is busy making it actually happen.

    Here we go again,
    High expectations for another event.
Just take the event this week as a lesson.
    Showtime, we got:
    Movie Store
    Update ipods
    ITV.

All related to Itunes and audio video experience. That's why was called "Showtime"

Now we have a new event coming up at a Photokina, photographers event.
    What should we expect?
Aperture update and maybe something else relate to Photographers needs.
    That's all folks!

Stop dreaming about Iphone, Mac Book Pro etc. it won't happen.
MPB's will be update on a Tuesday just like the Imac was couple weeks back. No special event for that.

Iphone if happens will be either have their own event or at MWSF.

Then later people get upset with Apple and don't understand why. Reality check guys.

You need to stop capitalizing that "i". Seriously.

There is a video demonstrating Thunderbolt tech transfer speed. Soft meter gives around 700mb/s but it copies 4,42gb in 14 so its like 350mb/s. Best SSD hd transfer are around 250mb/s, its a nice improvement...

Aiden, it's just not like you to make a statement like this without adding the links...
    http://www.spec.org/cpu2000/results/cfp2000.html ;)

Note the Dell Precision Workstation 390 (Conroe) and the Precision Workstation 690 (Xeon 5100).

    3 GHz Xeon - 2775
    2.93 GHz Conroe Extreme - 2872

That "horrible buffered memory" is about a 3.5% handicap....at most. (The memory, chipsets, motherboards are all different.)

And one shouldn't say "but the FB-DIMMs are clocked faster" - the buffering is what enables the faster clock, as well as what adds the latency. The two tend to balance out, and the net result is that you can put 64 GiB of RAM on the Xeon - which you couldn't do without buffering!

i didn't ignore anything. i stream pandora all the time when i'm on the go and while i'm at the house. my work has wifi so i just connect to that and my house wifi while i'm there. I have a buddy here at work that streams netflix and tons of other stuff but refuses to connect to wifi. he uses close to 10gb of data monthly and has still not received any message from AT&T.

My point is there are a lot of people that just don't connect to wifi when they are around it free, they just rely on their cell service instead. The reason i connect is bc when i'm looking online it's quicker internet wise then the 3g.

I'm not wanting anyone to change. but you're arguing that this service isn't great...when in reality it's just not great for you.

I like to live minimally....so having a dvd collection or cd collection of physical media does not interest me. Apparently, others think the same way or the cloud service would not exist. The service is not for you. Go back to ripping cds to your local storage device and making play list after play list and sync all ur music each time u want a variety.

Many people are the same way with books. My MIL has like 1,500 books in her house and just sees no value in a kindle and all that it provides.

I get it, people enjoy their "stuff".
Its also not great for many many many other people. You still base your ideas and arguments on the flawed notion that people have unlimited data and could still get it. I will also state again, I personally believe this will be some kind of add-on locker and not replacing local storage. I believe replacing local storage at this point would be a major mistake on Apple's part because it would negatively affect so many people...granted, not all.

    Have I missed something?

As far as I can tell, we haven't actually seen an invite to this media event, so how do we know it's actually going to happen? If Apple are having trouble with some of the proposed releases, what's to prevent them delaying till later in the month or even early October?

Let's ask yourself this.. they are saying that approx 1 in every 17 people now have a Windows based phone?? Do you know ANYONE that does?? Cause I know hundreds of people who have smartphones and not one of them has a Windows based phone.. major statistical failure!

So is TB actually included in the chipset or does it still need a separate controller? Sandy Bridge and Intel 6-series chipsets already support Thunderbolt "capability". In my ears this sounds like TB will not be included in the chipset which makes this piece of news more or less useless. USB 3.0 support has been known for months now.

I am pretty sure the current Intel boards require a separate Thunderbolt controller chip. Ivy Bridge seems to be pulling that chip into the ICH. Same for USB3.

I think we'll see a transition from iTunes to iMedia.

The iMedia Store (TV Shows, Music, Audiobooks, Movies). The iMedia Player (the "true" video ipod). airMedia (wireless video/audio streaming device).

Not sure aobut the phone name. iTalk? iWalk? iNeedAName?
