actually crucial already has your ram, apple's basically using an intel 5000 motherboard:

I was thinking this myself until I saw it was 4 x 512mb sticks. That just sucks. If it was 2 x 1gb sticks I would say not bad but its not good. Give crucial a few days to look into it. They guarantee compatibility, if it doesn't work you can return it. I am holding out for third party ram and staying with the 1gb base. Thank god its 1gb and not 512mb they usually throw at us.

I've been looking for something that is more practical (read larger) than a Palm Pilot but smaller than a small (read 12 inch) notebook.
Essentially I'm looking for a larger PDA. One that I can use with a bluetooth keyboard. I don't need it to be a fully powered notebook and at around $3,000 UPCs are far too expensive.
Something around $300 to $700 canadian, taxes in would be about right. I also don't need it to be a phone. I like my RAZR.
Just my $0.02 CAD.

I for one am not really that bothered about Lion or any OS updates - I love to have the latest thing and all improvements are always good. However, in my opinion they need to fix the OS I have before they release another one! For example with the last "update" [10.6.7] my Open type fonts are now playing up and the wonderful new Mac App Store takes about a minute to launch!
I get very worried when I hear El-Jobso talking about post a PC world as if he has decided already that the PC is dead. I for one could not make a living using an iPad and an iPhone.
Macs have always historically been used by content creators and designers [like me]. If, sometime in the future, Apple plan to lock down the system like they do with the iOS then I will simply stop upgrading my system. I could carry on using the system I have now until I retire, so it makes no odds to me if they want to stop making "proper" macs. I would imagine the rest of the design community would feel the same.
Don't get me wrong, I have an iPad and an iPhone and I can see how for the vast majority of consumers these would fit the bill for all your computing needs. However, if these consumers are going to have something to look at or play with or listen to, then us designers need the tools to create stuff with and that means powerful PCs.

It makes no difference. For starters, Toyota is violating the User Agreement. That in itself is grounds for immediate rejection. Second, it sends the wrong message. You want to do business with Apple, it has to be above-board. This should be obvious.

Just because I stick a Ford logo on the hood doesn't mean I can make my new Mustang look like a Porsche Carrera clone.
On that subject, auto companies do this within their own brands. Ford will make a Lincoln and a Mercury that is the same as a Ford model but with a different name on it.
I never understood that about the auto industry. If you buy up competition and keep the name around instead of folding the acquisition into the one brand, then do something unique with each brand. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury for instance should divide up product lines between brands. Ford could be brand name of the truck line while the other two are brand names for luxury and compact cars for instance. But the experts will say this is silly. LOL

For the Holiday market they will want Merom in the high end (black) Macbook, if not all of them. That means Sept-Oct... Historically the iBook was updated in october... (see buyers guide...)
The difference between the MB & MBP is now the graphics card, screen size, expansion slot etc. With no 12" PB/MBP they can't afford to hold back the high end MB. If they are smart they will keep Yonah in the low end for a budget model, and Merom in the high end for pros who want a smaller & lighter laptop.
I'm guessing that's what the black MB is all about.
I'm also guessing there will not be a way to get the edu ipod deal with the new laptops, if apple's history is any indicator...

Ok then you do not know how to follow the order of operations....ie if you want 2, you have to have another set of parenthesis (so you evaluate 2(9+3) before dividing into 48) or mistakenly think that multiplication somehow supersedes the use of division (which it does not and you then proceed from left to right)

are people not expecting merom to go immediately into the macbook as well? i don't see a reason for apple to purposely gimp their best-selling notebook when a merom chip is supposed to cost the same as its yonah counterpart.

Some think, including myself, that AV software at this point in time does not provide very much extra protection so using AV software is just a waste of system resources.
But, I use ClamXav anyway given that it uses very little cpu cycles. ClamXav does fail to release RAM after a scan but should give up those resources if needed by another process. ClamXav only chronically uses these resources if you set up the Sentry. If the Sentry is not used, then it only uses resources during an on-demand scan. On-demand scans can be set to run automatically at a specific time via the ClamXav UI that adds the scan settings to cron. ClamXav gives you more options related to how it will take up resources. Other AV software, such as Sophos, for Mac includes full on-access scanning that doesn't give you choice in how resources are used by the AV software.
I use AV software to prevent accidentally spreading Windows malware to Windows users. There are trojans for Mac OS X but these can be easily avoided by not password authenticating install prompts that you have not explicitly initiated (double clicked), not installing pirated software, and not installing free software from untrusted sources. Also, Mac OS X, as of Snow Leopard, includes a basic AV scanner that detects these trojans when you attempt to install the malware.
Do not run AV software if you do not want to give up resources to most likely only prevent the accidental spread of Windows malware, such as by forwarding an infected email. Or, run AV software most likely for little benefit to yourself. Additionally, ClamXav does include new definitions for Mac malware a fair bit of time prior to those definitions being included in XProtect (the AV scanner in Snow Leopard). Why use Japanese companies over American Companies. If they are made in China by a Japanese company why would that be cheaper than an American company being made in China? Also if the plants are in Japan they are just as expensive or more to produce in Japan as it is in the U.S. Have you seen any cameras or t.v's made in Japan for the U.S? Japanese people will not buy a t.v or camera etc if it's made outside of Japan, that why they pay much more for products made in Japan. If they are not going to make them in their U.S. make them in China for the lowest cost.
Perhaps because the Japanese supplier is the only company that can make the part well? Maybe they have the secret sauce, or just a serious patent portfolio.
If Apple are sourcing from a company, it's because Apple have done the math and decided that company offers the best deal/quality.

Not at all. They can use those components for producing Galaxy devices. And they can use free Foxconn resources (since they would not be assembling iPhones anymore) for assembling. :D
